I think that this color field piece is more successful as you are mixing more color. Try working with a field that is less recognizable. Let it truly be abstract, not something that I can presume to know.
I agree, I have been experimenting with different things. If you noticed, I added some older, realism pen, ink, and charcoal drawings.
